(MUM is watching MARTA pack for her trip overseas.)
MUM: Do you have your passport?
MARTA: Yeah.
MUM: I photocopied it.
MARTA: Ok.
MUM: If you loose it go to the Australian embassy and get them to call me, I have all your details.
MARTA: Ok.
MUM: Keep everything in your bra.
MARTA: I always keep everything in my bra.
MUM: Good, keep doing that.
MARTA: Don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
(MARTA continues to pack, as MUM continues to stare.)
MARTA: Is there anything else Mum?
MUM: Be careful of the gypsies.
MARTA: What?
MUM: Gypsies. They’re everywhere in Europe. They’ll steal your things and they can kidnap you.
MARTA: Ok mum, I don’t think I’ll be anywhere near gypsies.
MUM: But what will you do if you come across one?
MARTA: Probably keep on walking.
MUM: Never look them in the eye.
MARTA: Ok Mum, I’d really like you to leave me alone now.
MUM: Why are you packing this? (points at a bundle.)
MARTA: This? That’s my underwear.
MUM: Why are you packing it there?
MARTA: SO I CAN GET IT EASILY WHEN I NEED IT!
MUM: Ok ok, don’t yell.
MARTA: Can you please give me some space to pack?
MUM: Why do you need space to pack? When does anyone ever need space to pack?
MARTA: Have you ever packed your bag with someone watching over you?
MUM: This is your first time travelling on your own, you’ve never done this before and—
MARTA: I know Mum! I know. Passport, Gypsies and Bra. I’ve got it, now can you go?
MUM: Why?
MARTA: Because I want to be by myself.
MUM: Buy why?
MARTA: Because sometimes you need to be.
(long pause)
MUM: Will you miss me? When you’re gone?
MARTA: Yeah, of course.
MUM: Ok. That’s all I want to know.
THE END.
